Welcome to the 2020 Georgia Tech High School Mathematics Competition
Each spring semester the Georgia Tech School of Mathematics hosts the Institute's annual High School Mathematics Competition. The competition covers a wide range of high school math topics, including algebra, Euclidean geometry, combinatorics, number theory, and basic calculus. Schools from any state are welcome to compete. A school may register up to five teams with up to five contestants per team.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Atlanta, we are concerned that holding a large event on campus will not be in the best interests of public health. The CDC suggests that we modify, postpone, or cancel large events for the safety and well-being of event staff, participants, and the community. As you know, our annual event brings together students from all over the metro Atlanta area and we have about 400 people in attendance every year. Our hope is that if we are proactive, we can help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Given the recent local outbreaks and the growing concern at the high schools as well as among our graduate and undergraduate students on campus, we are saddened to inform you that after discussions with campus leadership we have decided to cancel the 2020 High School Math Competition. The High School Math Competition is an important annual event to our School and community. We will post information regarding the 2021 High School Math Competition on this site as soon as we have it.
Thank you for understanding and we hope to see everyone in 2021.
The HSMC will be held on the first floor in the Clough Undergraduate Learning Center, 266 Fourth Street.
Registration begins at 7:30am.
